Royal Enfield produced a number of variants of the 250cc single during the late fifties and sixties which were aimed at the learner and new rider end of the motorcycling spectrum. The Continental GT arrived in 1965 and was an instant hit, mainly due to its stylish design that managed to incorporate race bike detailing such as a swept exhaust, fly screen, clip-on handlebars and a humped back seat.
With just five previous custodians, this classic Continental GT is currently in the care of a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and has covered only two hundred miles since the engine was rebuilt by a specialist (the unit remains oil tight). A new uprated Fibretex clutch assembly has been recently fitted, which is a six spring unit as opposed to the standard three spring.
The vendor has been honest with his description and has informed us that the gearbox can jump out of third gear; if time had allowed, he would have rectified the fault, but his remedy has been to simply rest his foot on the gear change lever.
The professionally restored Royal Enfield is ideal for VMCC runs and events. It is supplied with a good history file which includes invoices, data, some MOT test certificates, old road tax discs, a copy instruction book, a VE60 registration book, the old V5 document and the V5C registration certificate.
