Arriving in 1980, the Mk I Silver Spirit inherited much of its styling and mechanics from its predecessor, the Silver Shadow. The 6750cc V8 engine powered a chunky piece of British engineering that boasted all the refinements one would expect from the marque. The self-levelling suspension, also from the Shadow, aided the superior ride quality, with the addition of gas-charged shock absorbers and a Girling ride height control system.
This example has been in the current ownership since 2005 and used primarily as a wedding car until 2011 when, due to the vendor’s other business commitments, the Rolls-Royce was put into dry storage. A new air conditioning compressor was fitted to the motor car prior to storage. Recently, the Silver Spirit has been recommissioned; work carried out has included an overhaul of the carburettors, the fitting of a new petrol pump and the removal, thorough cleaning and refitting of the petrol tank. The interior remains in generally good condition and should be easy to refurbish; the leather upholstery is in good order. The motor car was submitted for an MOT test, but regrettably failed to pass. The MOT test refusal certificate is included in the history file, together with the V5C registration certificate, invoices, numerous old MOT test certificates and other documentation.
With the necessary remedial work carried out, this Silver Spirit has great potential.
