First registered to the British Gas Corporation Southern Region at Southampton, this 6cwt Van was sold to trade purchaser Buddens of East Stour in 1978. Since then, for 47 years it has been in the ownership of one family, father and son, and for many years was the only transport for the young family, hence the side windows and Traveller folding rear seat.

From invoices in the file, we note that the cylinder head has been converted to run on unleaded fuel, and a stainless steel exhaust has been fitted. Most recently, we understand that a new battery has been installed, together with a new electronic ignition, ignition coil, alternator, HT leads, petrol pump and water pump. The brakes are overhauled and the fronts are converted to discs.

We understand that the underside, floor panels, roof gutters and doors are all solid, the front wings are salvageable. The horn and fuel gauge are both currently faulty. The engine / mechanics are in good, serviceable condition.

The Austin would certainly make for a useful daily runabout / utility vehicle for a small business, or it could easily be converted back to a traditional gas board vehicle and displayed at the usual shows and festivals. There is of course lots of help from the Morris Minor Club for novice owners and easy-to-obtain parts if needed. A perfect project for a new generation of classic enthusiasts.

The history file contains invoices, receipts, correspondence etc, the original V5, and the current V5C registration certificate.
