Summer 2014
The 19th of June was not only a successful day for Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions, but also a beautiful English summer’s day; the sunshine encouraged a large crowd of enthusiasts to visit the beautiful Athelhampton House, where we held our summer auction of historic vehicles and automobilia. A selection of interesting motor cars and motorcycles were offered at the sale, ranging from pre-war vehicles to modern classics. An extremely rare 1922 Lagonda 11.9hp Two Seat Drophead Coupe with Dickey in need of some TLC sold for £12320 and the immaculate and award-winning 1927 Austin 7 Chummy was bought for £17820; the Oldsmobile Six Model F-28 Tourer by Fisher and the Riley Wentworth 11.9 Fixed Head Coupe, both of 1928 vintage, made £8470 and £15620 respectively. A superb ’34 Lanchester 18 Drophead Coupe by Martin Walter fetched £20625 and is heading off to the north country to form part of an extensive Lanchester collection.
The highly desirable ex-works rally Reliant Sabre 6 GT, in need of restoration completion, sold for £26950. Other sporting classics included a 1951 Riley RMB Harrian Sports Special in need of recommissioning; this made £17050 and has gone to East Sussex where it will be lovingly restored. A 1981 Fiat 124 Sport Spider by Pininfarina and a 1987 Marcos Mantula 3.9, both from a private Devonshire collection, made £6050 and £11000 respectively. In total, 77% of the motor cars offered found new homes; we now turn our attention to our Autumn Sale on the 16th of October.
