Famous for the quality engineering and reliability, and as a departure from the production of musical instruments, in 1955 Nippon Gakki founded the Yamaha company to manufacture motorcycles utilising machinery that was used in World War II for making aircraft propellers.
This Yamaha 50 ‘Step Through’ moped was dry stored in 1981 by its third owner and the resulting odometer reading of just 7889 miles today is understood to be correct. The current custodian carried out a light restoration in 2020: all panels were stripped to bare metal and resprayed with appropriate undercoats. A new battery has been fitted, along with new tyres, inner tubes and rim tapes. The engine and gearbox is running well, however, a final recommissioning is recommended. Documentation shows that the moped was supplied by R. U. Holoway and Son Ltd of Bath, and that all owners of the Yamaha have resided in Somerset.
The V5C registration certificate is supplied, together with the VE60 registration book, a factory service manual and the original handbook guide.
