By the time war manufacturing had halted production of civilian vehicles, just 525 models of the P2 ‘10’ two door Coupe had been produced by Rover between 1938 and 1940.

CAC 943 was production number 223 and was first registered by Rover Car Company on the 1st of June 1938. It was allocated to a director. Powered by a 1398cc engine, coupled to a four speed gearbox, the motor car’s chassis is lubricated by a Luvax Bijur system that is powered by the manifold vacuum.

After Rover’s ownership, the P2 passed through the hands several times of George Mackie, who after working for Rover Cars, went on to produce the Marauder sports car. In the late 1990s, Tony Atkins purchased the motor car and carried out a programme of major refurbishment, whilst ensuring that he retained its originality. Improvements included the fitting of a new wiring loom, an engine and gearbox rebuild and an overhaul of the radiator, steering, braking and chassis lubrication systems. The bulkhead was also resprayed to the original specification at that time, and the wood cappings and dashboard were refinished. When the work was completed, a rally in Brittany and Normandy was undertaken with great success.

The ‘10’ has been in its current ownership for twelve years, during which time it has been carefully maintained, sensibly used and cherished by its enthusiast owner. With a working sunroof and operating opening windscreen, the lovely, original example is a past concours winner and is a regular attendee at car club events, rallies and road runs. The vendor understands the exceptionally low mileage of 38482 to be correct. A change of circumstances forces the reluctant sale of this charming pre-war Rover, which is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.

A large history file included in the sale contains the V5C registration certificate, MOT test certificates, instruction books, workshop manuals, a parts list, data, road test reports, a lubrication chart, publications, invoices, photographs and newspaper cuttings.
