Originally appearing at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, the first Paul Smith Mini was designed as part of the ‘Great Brits’ Mini collection, alongside David Bowie’s chromed mini and Kate Moss’s Spider Webb Mini. It inspired a run of three hundred UK limited edition Paul Smith Minis, with 1800 available worldwide. In the UK, the model was only available in Paul Smith Blue (the colour reputedly of the shirt Paul Smith was wearing at the meeting with the Rover designers).  For the rest of the world, the Mini was available in Old English White or Anthracite Black. The overall effect was intended to mimic one of the designer’s suits; a conservative appearance belied the fact that the motor car had a vibrant twist: the rocker cover, HT leads, inside of the glove box, the petrol tank and the boot board were all painted in a bright citrus green. As well as these details, the new model was also equipped with front fog lamps, a 24 carat gold bonnet badge and a special boot badge, magnolia dashboard instruments, black leather upholstery and other luxurious features that set it apart.

This cherished example was purchased by the current owner in 2006 for £3250. A restoration then commenced: the bodyshell was rebuilt and resprayed at a cost of £6000, the alloy wheels were refurbished, new brightwork was fitted and the suspension checked. Additional mechanical work included a brake overhaul and the fitting of a replacement clutch assembly. We are informed that the interior trim and upholstery are original and in very good order. The motor car is equipped with a radio/CD player.

This stand-out Mini has been used for special marque events and rallies and, we are told, widely admired wherever it is taken. Due to a change in circumstances, S67 UBL is now reluctantly being offered for sale.

The large history file contains amongst others a quantity of invoices, 120 photographic images, old MOT test certificates, the V5C registration certificate and the old issue V5C, together with sought-after Paul Smith memorabilia, including a camera in its original box, gift bags, a folder, a sales brochure and an unused rocker cover.
