1954 Norman Model D 125cc

The Norman brothers started out with bicycles in 1921, and in the late 1930s began building 98cc Villiers powered autocycles (the Norman Motobyk) in Ashford, Kent.  Later they took over the Rudge 98cc Autocycle. They also built motorcycles powered by Villiers engines of 125cc to 247cc.  During the 1950s they produced trials machines, fielding eight of these in the 1954 Scottish Six Day event. In 1961 Charles and Fred Norman retired and sold Norman to the Raleigh group which produced machines for another year, in Nottingham, before ceasing production.

This rare and interesting Model D is part of a private collection and has been in the current ownership since 1964. It requires restoration and therefore will be offered for sale without reserve. The motorcycle appears to be complete and so should prove to be a fairly straight-forward project, perhaps for a novice enthusiast. The history file contains the RF60 registration book, a later registration document confirming the aforesaid lengthy ownership, and an insurance policy dated November 1963.
