Launched at Earls Court in 1948, the Minor became something of a phenomenon for Morris with over 1.3 million models manufactured over its production run of twenty four years. Designed under Alec Issigonis, the Minor ‘MM’ was initially available as a saloon and tourer; by 1952 and in Series II guise, the iconic ash-framed Traveller arrived, shortly followed by the 6/8cwt Van and Pick-Up in ‘53. In whichever form, these economical vehicles are superb and highly-desirable classics.
This Traveller has had just two former owners. The previous lady (and second) custodian purchased it in 1981 and the current Dorset-based owner bought the motor car in 2007 from the Morris Minor Centre for £7775. A programme of no expense spared upgrading and restoration has been carried out during the last ten years; works has included the replacement of several panels, a respray, the replacement of the timber and Waxoyl rustproofing treatment to the underside. Mechanically, a five speed gearbox is now fitted, along with a new: radiator, road springs, electronic ignition, alternator, petrol pump, unleaded cylinder head, stainless steel exhaust system and radial ply tyres. The Minor is converted to disc brakes and the front seats have been replaced with Newton Commercials fully adjustable, matching colour seats with head restraints.
Fastidiously maintained, this Traveller is an exceptional example ready to be enjoyed. The history file contains numerous MOT test certificates, the V5C registration certificate (and replacement) and a large number of invoices.
