The MG Car Company sought to continue its pre-War success by introducing the TC in 1946, but by the turn of the decade it became obvious that change was needed. The TD was introduced in 1949, utilising the same chassis as its predecessor, but with new rack and pinion steering and independent front suspension. The resulting vehicle was faster and roomier than the TC and became very popular, with many exported to America. These models are still highly regarded today, offering good performance and an excellent supply of spare parts and technical assistance on hand through the MG Car Club.

We are told that this particular TD has had just five owners from new; the first record of ownership stretches back to 1971 and a Mr Ivan Carroll of Keighley. It passed through the hands of two more Yorkshiremen before finding its way south and eventually to Dorset, where the current custodian purchased the MG in 2015. At some point in the Nineties, we believe that the TD was restored; certainly, there are numerous invoices included in the file from that period which indicate that the then owner, a Mr Castle of London, spent not an insignificant amount of money on the motor car. The current custodian has previously used the MG as daily transport and assures us that it is a reliable example with no mechanical issues. The interior is believed to be original and in nice order, and the hood is serviceable. The bodywork is sound and solid and apparently rust free, but the paintwork has dulled over time. All in all then, a well-priced, solid and dependable example which should give its next owner many miles of happy, classy motoring, but could be resprayed if the new owner so wishes.

The extensive history file includes the original RF60 registration book, ten tax discs dating from 1985, a Midget TD and TF manual, parts catalogues, a number of MOT test certificates dating from 1995, a photograph perhaps taken in the Nineties, the aforesaid invoices from that period, and other documentation.
