First registered in 1975, this B GT has been modified with competition in mind. The motor car has been stripped to save weight, with the removal of the carpets, heater and associated pipework. Weight saving has also been employed at the front of the MG, with fibreglass wings, bonnet and front lower skirt all reducing overall mass. Inside the engine bay are twin carburettors with triple pull-off springs, breather pipes leading to a catch tank, and a heat wrapped exhaust. An Aldon Automotive racing distributor improves the spark of the plugs. The standard oil cooler is relocated beneath the front engine bay and a hard-wired fan, operated from the cabin, completes the competition mechanical specification.
The spartan cabin has in place of the carpets and heater a bolted roll cage and an OMP bucket seat with a three point racing harness. The glove compartment has race participation badges for events at Silverstone and Snetterton.
We understand that the mechanical aspect of the MG is good. The standard gearbox and 1798cc engine have good performance, although under bonnet temperatures necessitate the cooling fan to be on continuously. The current custodian has fitted new rear leaf springs and front coil springs to return the motor car to its standard ride height.
HCN 64N is supplied with lowering springs for all four corners, various pieces of trim and the all-important Haynes manual, together with the V5C registration certificate. Tax and MOT exempt, the B GT would provide an inexpensive and easy start into hill climbs, sprints and road rallies.
