Manufactured in Germany and imported from Arizona some three years ago, this (Mercury) Capri Mk I 2600 has been the subject of a sympathetic refurbishment. The V6 Cologne engine (which was interestingly the basis of the RS2600 engine) was in good condition, as was the manual transmission, so neither required any great attention. The steering and braking systems have both been overhauled though, the radiator has been re-cored, the exhaust system renewed and new shock absorbers fitted. The Capri sits on five new tyres fitted to the refurbished road wheels. We understand that the bodywork was in good condition, but the paintwork was faded, therefore the body was stripped, original panels retained (which, we are informed, have their original date stamps of April and May 1973). The Capri was professionally resprayed in Daytona Yellow, which the vendor considered to be more aesthetically pleasing than the original brown hue. After the body was reassembled, the motor car was fitted with new carpets, new headlining, a Sundym front windscreen, all new rubber seals and new quarter bumpers. The front seats were also reupholstered.
Since the completion of the restoration, the Capri has remained unused and in storage due to ill health. It is supplied with the V5C registration certificate and although exempt, a current MOT test certificate.
