1952 Austin A40 Sports

Designed and produced with Jensen Motors, the A40 Sports of 1950 was a sporting tourer designed by Eric Neale with mechanics based on the Austin A40 Devon. The second generation (or Mk II), which arrived in 1951, was upgraded with steering-column gear change and hydraulic brakes; it also had a new dashboard with instrumentation in the centre, differing from its predecessor’s A40 Devon dash. Just over 4000 units of the A40 Sports were produced, making it a rare survivor on UK roads today. 

This example benefits from a 1622cc MG A Mk II engine with twin carburettors. It resided in London during the 1960s and travelled around a little in the seventies, before eventually finding the current owner, an Austin Counties Car Club member, in 2005, who has cherished his A40 Sports, maintained it well and participated in local classic shows and events.

NGU 824 is described as being very good in all departments. There are no known mechanical faults and it drives as one would expect. It’s a comfortable, civilised sporting car, more so than many of its competitors.

The body is smart, having been the subject of a full bare metal respray in recent years. The panel fit is very good, the doors close nicely, and the upholstery clean and tidy - it has been renewed at some point in the past.  The black vinyl roof is serviceable. We understand that the underside is sound and solid.

The history file contains road tax discs, MOT test certificates from 1998 to 2010, photographs, invoices, an RF60 continuation book, a V5 document and the V5C registration certificate.
