As the world’s second best selling model, the Volkswagen Golf has achieved something of a cult status. It was initially conceived as a front engined replacement of the Beetle and the first generation Golf appeared in 1974 to wide acclaim. The model range’s longevity must be due to its versatility; from family estate to hot hatch, the VW Golf has evolved for forty years to become widely regarded as a modern classic.

Rarely does a motor car in this condition with such a low mileage come onto the market; the fact that it is a low volume model Volkswagen Golf Karmann Ghia Cabriolet makes it a desirable motor car indeed. This example was originally supplied to its first owner on the Channel Island of Alderney. The current custodian purchased the first owner’s house and the smart motor car in 2004, when its odometer reading was just 4000 miles. In January 2012, the Golf was imported to England; HMRC issued the form C&E 388 on the 25th of May of that year, placing a restriction on the sale of the vehicle until the 18th January 2013.

The condition of the Golf today is immaculate for its age. Your writer can confirm that on a test run, the motor car behaved impeccably. The vendor assures us that there are no known mechanical faults and describes the Volkswagen as excellent. The interior is as new and without the usual signs of wear.

The large history file contains the Guernsey registration book, a Volkswagen heritage letter, correspondence, invoices, sundry MOT test certificates, tax discs, the original handbook, a States of Guernsey registration book and the V5C registration certificate.

The documented mileage is now only 6700 miles. A true time warp example.
