Maybe what made Britain Great was the small engineering firms that produced true sports cars, with fantastic styling and ridiculous performance from very light bodies. Amongst these were Lotus, various Cobras and the TVR Motor Company. From humble beginnings in Blackpool, working with MG or Ford mechanicals and exciting yet strong glass fibre bodies, TVR developed from the sixties and now produce some very exciting vehicles indeed.

In 1999 the Griffith 500 was offered with charismatic coachwork on a substantial chassis with power from the lusty, modified V8 Rover engine stretched to five litres for the 500. Considerable thought was also given to the cockpit wherein a mixture of leather and wood trim was covered in an easy-to-erect mohair roof. There was a full set of instruments gently curving around the driver, though one probably had enough going on outside to hold one’s attention. This was, and still is, a very fast car with 150mph on tap and acceleration to shatter the senses.

Today we offer this fabulous looking example in Imperial Blue metallic, trimmed in navy blue and magnolia half hide. The navy blue mohair roof is reported to be in very good condition, as are the seals, the clear plastic rear screen and the stitching. Mechanically all is believed to be good and the underside we are told was Waxoyled in the past.

There is a V5C registration certificate plus some older ones, various invoices and MOT test certificates, and an owner’s handbook, best read whilst the vehicle is stationary.
