1931 Sunbeam 18.2hp Two Door Drop Head Coupe by Young of Bromley

Sunbeam Motor Car Company was formed by John Marston in 1905 and the company soon established itself as leaders in motor sport, achieving success not only in motor racing, but also in record breaking as well. Sir Henry Seagrave broke the 200mph barrier with a new record of 203.79 mph at Daytona in 1927.

Supplied new by Pass and Joyce Ltd, this handsome two door drophead coupe was purchased by the late Stephen Pettifer some thirty years ago from the then owner in Hampshire. GP 2211 turned out to be a major restoration project, resulting in four years of work which included the restoration of the coachwork, ash frame, a complete respray, the fitting of new upholstery and a new lined hood. Some eight years ago, the engine unit was removed and overhauled with new big end and main bearings and piston rings fitted. At that time, the motor car was also upgraded to twin SU carburettors and fitted with a Laycock overdrive to improve performance. We understand that recently, the radiator has been reconditioned.

This Sunbeam has been used extensively for European tours and rallies in France, Belgium, Switzerland and the Spanish Pyrenes, as well as numerous events in the UK. We understand that GP 2211 has excellent performance and keeps up with modern traffic with ease, and is a pleasure to drive. We would recommend that the new owner carries out a recommissioning service before returning the motor car to the road.

Supplied with the Sunbeam is a photocopy handbook of instructions (albeit for a 16hp model), a large colour photograph of the motor car and a V5C registration certificate.

ADDENDUM

Please note that there is some evidence of water in the engine oil. We understand that the Sunbeam was last on the road in 2016.
