When David Bache designed the SD1, it is thought he had the Ferrari Daytona at the back of his mind. A lovely style and a fitting end to Rover’s Special Design production at Solihull. The fine five door hatchback received engineering input from Spen King and won the European Car of The Year Award 1977. Power for the 3500 came from the Buick inspired 3528cc V8 which was coupled to a Borg-warner three speed automatic gearbox and live rear axle.

This particular SD1 was purchased by Cedric Sansom in 1981 and has had just one previous owner. The Ziebart rust treatment applied when new has obviously paid off; the bodywork and paint still remain in very good condition, as does the brightwork, the front and rear bumpers are unmarked. The interior has been well cared for and shows little wear: the headlining is clean and in good condition, the upholstery is virtually faultless, but the left-hand interior light is missing. Mechanically, we understand there to be no known faults, but a battery and recommissioning service is recommended. To find another SD1 in this condition would be a difficult task indeed.

The history file includes photographs, sundry invoices, correspondence, twenty six MOT test certificates, the V5 document, the V5C registration certificate and its replacement.
