Raleigh’s first moped arrived in 1959, a year before the company became part of a group, along with Norman, Phillips and Hercules, under the name of ‘Tube Investments’. Efficient production was required from those four individual companies and henceforth, the Mobylette from Motobécane of France was licenced for production, with some amendments, for the UK market. After an assortment of predecessors, the RM6 Runabout appeared on Britain’s streets in 1963. Inheriting the same rigid frame and engine as the Mobylette, the RM6 was a single speed moped with an automatic clutch and had cycle-type forks, a calliper front brake and its fuel tank over the rear wheel. Resplendent in Pearl Grey and Raleigh Green, the moped was efficient, economical and stylish transportation, fit for the Swinging Sixties.

Understood to be owned by one family from new and with few custodians in total, this Runabout has been in dry storage since 2006. It would appear to be in very original and complete condition, retaining the maker’s livery and original decals. A wonderful classic moped and one that should be an easy recommissioning project.

The file contains the V5C registration certificate, the last MOT test certificate (dated March 2006), a V311 form, an original instruction book and a copy image of the previous owner (a nephew of the current custodian) taken in the 1970s.
