Produced by Morris Motors to compete with Austin and others in the affordable family car sector, the Series 1 Morris Eight was well equipped and remains a good entry into the pre-war classic car scene, being easy to drive and having an excellent support network in terms of spares and advice from the Morris Register.

The four door, six light coachwork is mounted on a separate chassis. Power comes from a tough UB series 918cc four cylinder side valve engine, with three bearing crankshaft. There is a single SU carburettor and a three speed manual gearbox having synchromesh on second and third gear. Lockheed hydraulic brakes give the Morris a definite edge on its period rivals.

Originally supplied by T Baker and Sons of Reading, RD 6525 has been in the same ownership since January 1959. The motor car sports the chrome radiator surround and wire wheels of the series one model. The blue and black paintwork is nicely aged and the blue leather trim is in good shape. The instruments are all correct in the central binnacle and the engine bay is tidy and boasts the spare oil can mounted on the bulkhead. The motor car has had little use since the death of its owner during the summer of 2021, but we understand it was running and driving at the time. Some re-commissioning would thus be advised prior to serious use.

The Morris 8 is supplied with the RF60 registration book, the V5C registration certificate, a couple of old tax discs, two Morris operation manuals, an information manual, a Morris Register spares list and a Castrol lubrication chart. The registration number is the original Reading issue.

This Morris has clearly been well loved and deserves an appreciative new home ready for Spring adventures.
