Succeeding the MGA, the B range of models were innovative for their era. The lightweight monocoque construction produced a car that was economical for MG to produce, but equally offered performance and style to sports car enthusiasts. The Roadster was the first of the range, manufactured from 1962 until the closure of the Abingdon factory in 1980. With the invaluable support from the excellent MG car club, these sports cars are enjoyable to use and economical to run and maintain.

First registered in England in February 1974 as PBM 953M, this example was re-registered in Southern Ireland in July 2004. The motor car has been in the same ownership for the last eleven years and during this period, much money and time has been lavished on the MG. The vast amount of work has included wire wheel conversion with new tyres, a cylinder head overhaul, the replacement of all suspension bushes with polyurethane bushes, and the fitting of: a lightweight starter motor, a new clutch, new brake calipers and shock absorbers (the rear being an adjustable Spax). Sensibly, the original six volt batteries have been replaced with one twelve volt unit.

The bodywork was the subject of an extensive restoration in 2009. New sill panels, castle sections, floor panels, rear inner arch panels, front valance, rear lower quarter panels, front wings, the radiator panel and the left hand door have all been replaced. A bodywork respray followed.  The interior was then attended to by way of a complete new trim, carpets and upholstery, together with a new hood. The Roadster is supplied with a tonneau cover, a luggage rack and a car cover.

This fine example has rarely been driven in the wet and resides in a dry garage, but rustproofing has been carried out. 74WX 528 is exempt from the NCT test which is the Irish equivalent of the UK MOT test. Therefore, prior to re-registering the MG, an MOT test will be required, but the vendor is confident that the motor car will pass without drama.

The history file contains the BMIHT certificate, a photographic record of the restoration, records of previous owners, MOT test certificates to verify the mileage and further documentation. A box of sundry parts will also be supplied. It is worth mentioning that this MG B is now road tax exempt under the Government’s new regulations.
