1996 GMC Suburban 5.7 Litre V8 Auto Estate

On April 6th, 1997, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times wrote “The Suburban, as a big status symbol it has become the vehicle of the stars and the affluent who flaunt their ‘anti-fancy’ car thing”. And how right they were; this go-anywhere, no nonsense GMC 4x4 will tow your boat, tow your race car, tow your horse box, and ferry the family around (no excuses not to go to school in the snow with this all-weather, all terrain American brute).  With fold-flat rear seats, you could even camp in it and watch (analogue) television or play a DVD before lights-out; equally, as a workhorse and aside from the towing capabilities, it would be entirely possible to carry 8’4” sheets of plywood or whatever.

The Suburban was purchased new by the vendor in Pennsylvania whilst working in the USA. It accompanied him on his return to England in 1997 and was re-registered in his wife’s name. The vehicle is described as good in most departments and is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system. The interior is tidy and sports wood grain finishes which are non-standard. As is to be expected, the driver’s seat is showing some signs of wear and the paint has some scuffs. We are informed that the air conditioning is not working at present, the brake lines have some pitting and the front brake pads require replacement. The automatic transmission was reconditioned by a specialist in 2010 at a cost of £1600.

The GMC is supplied with a bicycle rack, the aforesaid television, a workshop manual and sundry spares, together with a history file that includes sales brochures, import documents, the Pennsylvania Certificate of Title, the V5C registration certificate and the current MOT test certificate.
