The modern styling, mechanics and adaptability of the Escort when it arrived in 1968 was a huge success, so much so that it became the best-selling UK car in the Sixties. The Ford Escort was remodelled as the Mk V in 1995, although it still retained most aspects of its predecessor.  The RS2000 ceased production in June 1996 as the last of the Escorts bearing the recognisable RS badge.

With adequate performance from the 2.0 litre DOHC 16 valve engine, married to a five speed gearbox, the RS2000 drives well, makes all the right noises and is widely regarded as a modern classic. Mechanically, we are informed that there are no known faults with this 1995 example and the custodian of fourteen years describes the motor car as very good in all departments. It sits on its original alloy road wheels and is equipped with an alarm system, a K & N air filter and stainless steel exhaust; supplied separately is a genuine Ford modified exhaust centre pipe to replace the catalytic converter. The smart original interior appears to be unmarked and the bodywork is ‘straight’, although some areas of the bodywork could be improved on due to surface rust.

The large history file contains the original handbooks, invoices, a vast quantity of MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate and its replacement.
