Cadillac’s early ‘Coupe de Villes’ arrived on America’s streets in the early 1950s. Named after the French ‘short town carriage’, the models were highly appointed and extremely desirable, but it was in 1959 that the true first generation Coupe de Ville was produced, resplendent with outrageous tail fins, bullet rear lights and a host of other design details that certainly enabled the model to stand out from the crowd. Through three further generations, the De Ville evolved while those fins reduced in size somewhat and by the time the fifth generation arrived, the model range was slightly smaller and lighter, which in turn produced a motor car that was more energy efficient.

This 1978 Coupe de Ville was imported to the UK in 1980; the married couple who purchased the car remained custodians until 2017. With a change of circumstances and lack of garaging, regrettably the Caddy is now looking for a new ranch! In exceptional condition, the motor car is finished in the striking colour of Candy Apple Red, which is complimented by an almost unmarked red leather interior (the vendor has pointed out just one fault on the driver’s seat which could be rectified by a specialist); indeed, the original interior is nothing less than fabulous and is enhanced by superbly designed lighting. The exterior was resprayed some twenty years ago and remains in excellent condition. The entire automobile shouts its authenticity loudly and has clearly been cherished and well-maintained throughout its life. We are informed that everything works and that the Cadillac is in very good order. Sensibly, an alarm system has been fitted and two fobs are included in the sale. REY 389S sits on its original road wheels and a matching spare tyre is supplied, as well as the original ‘space saver’ spare wheel and is equipped with a recently new exhaust system. A full service has been carried out in the last few months, during which the motor car was treated to a new brake master cylinder and fluid change.

The history file includes invoices, thirty MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate.

Certainly a rare opportunity to acquire an American classic in outstanding condition that represents exceptional value for money.

Please note the engine size: 6965cc
