The R90/6 was manufactured by BMW in Berlin from 1974 to 1976. With a boxer twin, the R90/6 were air cooled four strokes with shaft drive. Twelve volt electrics were fitted with a tachometer and alternator.  Brakes were disc on the front and single leading shoe at the rear. The model is described as a comfortable cruiser with good straight line stability. The soft suspension coupled with a low centre of gravity allows precise and predictable cornering and it is said that ‘it is a breeze to flick the bike from side to side in S bends’. The passenger is well catered for with a comfortable seat and a grab bar, obviating the need to clasp the rider.

From Middlesex to Dorset comes this rather smart and desirable R90/6, enhanced by its conversion of its original twin unit from 900cc to 1000cc. In 1998, the vendor purchased the machine from a member of his family, who had owned it since 1992. A documented restoration commenced in the late nineties and noughties, and the vendor has enjoyed his motorcycle since, participating in touring and club runs.  Now, the BMW is in good and presentable condition, and mechanically, we are informed that it’s a reliable machine, as BMW is famous for of course.

A large history includes a handwritten log of work carried out, an almost continuous run of MOT test certificates from 1997 to 2017, DVLA documentation, early Southwest Section BMW Club bulletins, Manuals from Haynes and Clymer, a large lever arch file of maintenance and technical information, lots of invoices (especially from the late 90s and 00s), the V5C registration certificate and two earlier copies of V5 documents.
