Produced in a variety of body styles such as tourer, saloon and van etc, all on a sturdy ladder framed chassis and powered by a rugged 1535cc four cylinder side-valve engine, the re- styled Light 12/4 could achieve around 65mph. The saloon was known as the Ascot and was distinguished by a small boot and cowled radiator grille.

AUO 741 was subject to considerable restoration to the coachwork and interior in 2008. Photographs are on file showing the extent of the work. Now finished in an attractive shade of maroon with black roof and wings we are told that  the underside is also very good. The interior is in good order, including the original Bakelite ash trays with Austin logos, and the Ascot has new carpets and wool headlining. The original opening windscreen is working, as is the sliding sunshine roof.

In 2019 the engine was rebuilt with new white metal big ends and main bearings. The crankshaft was balanced and reground and clutch, timing gear and chain attended to. The cylinder head was checked and the block rebored to +30. Less than 2,000 miles has been covered since. Other work includes brake overhaul 2019, plus the fitting of new king pins and bushes in 2008.

Offered with modern V5C registration certificate and a useful file of invoices and literature, this should be an ideal purchase for those seeking a pre-war family car in ready to use condition.
