Vintage Sunbeams are known for their engineering standards and some knowledgeable enthusiasts  will prefer them to Rolls-Royces of the period.  There is a supportive owner’s club with plenty of advice and spare parts sourcing on hand. Certainly a marque to consider when looking to fill a space in one’s Motor House and great will be the variety of models on offer.

This attractive 14/40 was first registered in Birmingham on the 17th of June 1924. We understand it to have had three previous keepers up until 1992; a Mr Greenwood of Southsea was the owner from 1959 until 1988 and used ‘Sarah’ the Sunbeam on a daily basis for both business and for pleasure, including twice-yearly visits to the Norfolk Broads, frequent days out and trips to VSCC meetings, including Silverstone. The current collector custodian purchased the 14/40 in a dismantled state in 1992 from motor car Broker Andrew Booth. It was then reassembled and carefully restored where appropriate. The Sunbeam is equipped with four-wheel brakes, twin spare wheels and its original sports engine has been overhauled and extensively improved by the vendor, and performs very well as a result.

In addition to the considerable attention given to the mechanical aspect, the upholstery was retrimmed in buttoned leather to the original pattern, and the hood and lining was renewed. The windscreen glass was also replaced. The coachwork, while not in concours condition, is sound, solid, tidy and presentable.

The large history file includes two RF60 registration books, the V5C registration certificate and its replacement, an original handbook plus photocopies, photographs, correspondence, sundry invoices, drawings, data, a wiring diagram, STD literature and a notebook recording past suppliers, useful contacts, and records of works carried out and information amassed during the current ownership.
