The original Dominator was designed by Bert Hopwood, formerly on the design team at Triumph working on their Speed Twin, the Norton’s main competitor. It was produced from 1949 into the 1960s and was then powered by a 596cc OHC engine. In 1960 a 650cc unit was installed then in 1961 the 650SS arrived with twin carburettors, this being regarded as the best of the ‘Dommies’.

This example is finished in grey and black with dual seat in light grey and black. The engine has been rebuilt and the correct twin carburettors are present; the tank has been resprayed and chrome mudguards fitted, but the motorcycle is largely original, having formed part of a private collection and barely used for some twenty years before the current custodian purchased the machine for his own collection. The low mileage is believed to be correct and the Norton remains in superb condition; we are told that mechanically, there are no known faults.

This motorcycle comes with a V5C registration certificate, a V5 document and MOT test certificates. There is also a Haynes workshop manual.
