The first Triumph Herald based Equipes were produced by Bond Cars from 1963 to 1970. Initially the running gear and certain body parts came from Triumph. With the introduction of the six-cylinder 2 litre Vitesse in 1967, Bond were able to provide an 100mph sports coupe with respectable acceleration and the handling enhanced by improved suspension and brakes. The convertible was announced the following year and built until 1970 when discontinued following the acquisition of the firm by Reliant, who had their own Scimitar Coupe and Convertible.

This rare Equipe Mk II has been in the current ownership since 2018 but unfortunately poor health forces its sale now. The vendor, a VSCC marshal, has put a good deal of effort in improving the motor car; the carburettor was rebuilt in 2019 when a new speedometer cable was also fitted, and in 2020 at a cost of over £4000, the cylinder head, rocker shaft and rockers were reconditioned; a new water pump, coolant pipes, plugs and leads were fitted, as was a new clutch plate and thrust bearing. We understand that new door rubbers were recently fitted, and that there is an alternator instead of a dynamo. The Bond has been dry stored for a short time so may need a new battery although we have had it running whilst in our care.  The integral chassis may have been repainted at some point and remains in good condition. The boot lid fits well but the doors and bonnet may benefit from adjustment. The upholstery and carpets are in tidy, serviceable condition, likewise the hood, although the fit is not wonderful but is watertight. The windscreen rubbers have hardened and could be replaced. The boot is good, as are the bumpers which would benefit from a vigorous polish. The wheels are aluminium and there’s a radio cassette player stowed in the boot. All instrumentation is in working order but apparently the tachometer runs a little fast. The last MOT was carried out in 2021. It’s a nice project for a Bond enthusiast.

The history file contains tax discs dating from 1981 – 2015, an almost complete run of MOT test certificates from 1980 – 2017 plus 2021, a parts list, many invoices dating back to the early 1980s, the V5C registration certificate and others.
