The Leader was launched in 1958 and offered as having the combination of scooter comfort with motorcycle performance. The Motorcycle News magazine gave the Ariel Leader ‘Motorcycle of the Year’ award in 1959.

The engine was fully enclosed and there was a substantial windscreen affording better weather protection. Power was provided by a 250cc two stroke engine and a cleverly designed dummy fuel tank provided a useful storage space for a crash helmet, the actual tank being accessed under the seats. Flashing indicators were offered for the first time on a motorcycle. Production continued until 1965 when Japanese imports became too popular and demand for the Leader lessened.

We understand that this 1960 Leader is in excellent condition. The attractive motorcycle is difficult to fault, both mechanically and cosmetically. The paintwork is lovely, the panelwork is straight and the vendor tells us that there are no known mechanical faults. A motorcycle you can ride in your Sunday best, providing it doesn’t rain of course!

A dating certificate is supplied, together with the VC5 registration certificate.
