Arriving in May 1962, the Vitesse inherited its name from a pre-war Triumph. The model was a performance version of the Herald, but powered initially by a Standard Vanguard Six 1596cc engine driven through a strengthened gearbox that together improved cruising experience. Design came by way of the famous Giovanni Michelotti, who adapted the Herald’s body to incorporate a new front end with the striking four headlamp arrangement. The interior offered further refinements, such as improved seating and wood door cappings.

This 1969 Vitesse Convertible was, we understand, exported to Jersey in 1997 where it was the subject of a partial restoration. In July 2013 it was repatriated to England and the original registration number YYY 56G was reissued. The current custodian, a Triumph Sports Six Club member, purchased the Vitesse in November 2013 and informs us that regular servicing and MOT tests have been carried out. It is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system and wire wheels which enhance the overall appearance of the motor car; the vendor believes that these were factory fitted. Importantly, the Double Duck hood is described as being like new and a tonneau cover is supplied, but does have some damage. The interior is original and tidy.

Mechanically, we understand the Triumph to be ‘up together’, with recently fitted new clutch master and slave cylinders. The bodywork has been kept in good order, with repairs to the wheel arches and door bottoms.

This popular four seat performance convertible is supplied with the V5C registration certificate, sundry invoices, MOT test certificates and the import documentation.
