Looking for a new direction for Standard-Triumph, Giovanni Michelotti was commissioned to style a new modern family motor car that could be offered in a variety of guises because of the separate chassis arrangement. The sharply styled Herald arrived in 1959 to wide acclaim and was offered as a saloon, coupe, estate, convertible and even van. Initially powered by a 948cc four cylinder engine (from the Standard Pennant) and with other mechanical parts from the Standard 8 and 10, the Herald began to evolve when Leyland purchased the company in 1961. The 1967 13/60 was the final incarnation; 1296cc engine was far more powerful than its predecessors and the model range came in estate, saloon and convertible.

As an ideal starter or family classic, this Somerset-registered 13/60 Herald is, we understand, a good reliable vehicle, described as sound and solid with a very smart original red interior. Easy to run and economical to maintain, the vendor tells us that the Herald is very good in most departments and has been upgraded with Radial Ply tyres. The 1296cc engine provides lively performance, coupled to an overdrive gearbox.

The history file includes the V5C registration certificate and its replacement, invoices and quite a collection of MOT test certificates.
