The 349cc Twenty One went into production in 1957, equipped with unit construction and twin cylinders. In 1959, Triumph renamed the machine the ‘3TA’, updating the new model with an alternator and disposing of the memorable ‘bathtub’ rear wheel panels, which while fashionable in 1950s Britain, found less favour with the American motorcycle market. The 5TA was a 500cc version of the same, often referred to as the 'new Speed Twin'.

This example was purchased by its current custodian when he was just sixteen years old. Now at sixty, he has decided that after nearly five decades, the restoration project would suit a more dedicated enthusiast. The Triumph was used regularly in the early years of his ownership, and he can recall spending a fair sum of money on the mechanical aspect of the machine, including an MOT test in 1992 (as recorded in the file) with the work carried out by local specialist Ken Doyle Motorcycles Ltd. We understand that the non-standard specifications were installed prior to the vendor’s ownership.

The aforesaid file contains the original RF60 registration book and sundry papers.
