From 1949 until 1964, Rover produced their P4 series of models. Completely restyled, the new range differed vastly from the pre-war designed P3, but inherited its predecessor’s four and six cylinder engines.

The P4 95 arrived in 1962 and, along with the 110, was the final incarnation of the P4 family. The 2.6 litre, 2638cc, 102hp engine produced excellent performance, achieving 90mph as a top speed, and offered solid workmanship and dependability.

This example was originally registered and supplied by Crabtree-Nicol Ltd Racecourse Garage of Doncaster. Not to be confused with the average model that has been repaired over the years due to the dreaded ‘tin worm’, the P4 is in good, solid order and has clearly been cherished by its current custodian of ten years, himself a member of the Rover P4 Driver’s Guild, who has used the motor car for special occasions only. The mileage of 34600 is believed to be correct; certainly, the substantial collection of MOT test certificates included in the sale appears to confirm this. In 1995, we see that the Rover ‘Auntie’ was given a full rustproofing treatment, which has obviously paid off. Cosmetically, the original leather upholstery, headlining, dashboard and cappings are all in good order; if we dared to criticise, we may suggest that the rubber on the door steps and the door weatherstrips could require replacement, should the new owner wish. The motor car sits level on recent new tyres and on a short road test, your writer can confirm that 605 NDT performs as one would expect, with an effortless, quiet engine and transmission and first class handling.

The extensive history file includes the aforementioned MOT test certificates, together with invocies, the V5C registration certificate, the RF60 registration book, old road tax discs, photographs, a parts list, a Rover dealer list and an instruction manual.
