BOO 712F was the subject of an almost astonishing restoration that commenced in April 2009 and was carried out by Devon Classic Cars Ltd at a cost of some £12000. The Minor was fitted with new Heritage: front and rear wings, a boot lid panel, inner and outer sill sections, both rear spring hanger panels, a gearbox cross member panel and a front cross member chassis panel. A bare metal respray (finishing with Rose Taupe) to the bodyshell, doors, wings, bonnet and boot was then completed.
The 1098cc engine was then stripped and all parts examined. The crankshaft was reground, the cylinder block rebored and re-faced, and new bearings, pistons, camshaft (STD), oil pump, timing chain and gears were all fitted. The cylinder head was re-faced, the valve seats re-cut and the valves re-ground to hardened exhaust seats (enabling unleaded fuel to be used). Replacement valve springs and rocker shafts were fitted, the rocker arms resurfaced, and the engine was rebuilt with new gaskets and seals. The Ribbed gearbox was overhauled by Devon and Cornwall Transmissions and new synchro hubs, seals and gaskets were installed, along with a new clutch assembly. The 3.9 ratio rear axle was also stripped, examined and fitted with new seals and gaskets, the propshaft UJs were replaced and the SU carburettor was overhauled.
A complete overhaul of the front suspension followed, with trunnions, bushes and seals replaced. The rear suspension springs were also replaced, all new brake cylinders fitted, together with new brakes shoes to the front and rear, a new brake master cylinder and new front wheel bearings. All rubbers and shackle bushes were replaced and a new steering rack was installed. The Minor was equipped with a new windscreen assembly, a new wiring loom, all new lamps and a new battery at that time. The underside and inner panels have been treated with Waxoyl.
The road wheels have been sandblasted, primed, powder coated and fitted with new radial ply tyres. We are informed that the interior is in excellent original condition; the door cards and carpets have been replaced. New bumper blades have been fitted and all other chrome has been either rechromed or replaced.
11700 miles have been covered since the restoration was completed and the Minor has clearly been well maintained in the following years. Included in the sale is the V5C registration certificate, a log of mileage and servicing (which substantiates the mileage since restoration), a sales invoice, handbooks and manuals.
