Synonymous with the Second World War, the well-built G3/L was produced specifically for the military, and adapted from its pre-war predecessor, the G3. The ‘L’ designation indicated its lightness of weight, something the military specified for dispatch riding and essential off-road use. However, the stand-out feature of the model was its telescopic forks, which of course improved the handling and overall ride. Such was their reliability and robustness that the MoD continued to employ the G3/L up until 1960.

We are informed that this particular example was restored in the late 1990s to a high standard and with several upgrades. The refurbishment included the rebuilding of the carburettor assembly and the fitting of new British produced chrome wheel rims, together with a reconditioned magneto, dynamo and regulator.  Remaining in good order, the Matchless has in recent years formed part of a private collection of classic vehicles, and has been used only sparingly on club runs by its owner, a VMCC member. The motorcycle is clearly well-maintained and has had new tyres fitted recently.

The V5C registration certificate is supplied, together with sundry paperwork and some old MOT test certificates etc…
