From 1974 until 1982, Lotus produced the ‘fastback’ styled Eclat. The futuristic wedge-shaped design, quintessential of the era, followed on from the Lotus Elite and offered owners more practicality with a larger boot compartment. The early models were powered by a 1973cc, 160hp Lotus 907 ‘Slant Four’ engine and were offered with either a four or five speed gearbox, the latter coming from Austin Maxi components. Overall, the Eclat was widely admired for its handling, but survivors today are few and far between.

This example has been enthusiast owned and maintained for some twenty seven years, during which time major work has been carried out. We are told that this has included an engine rebuild less than five hundred miles ago; hardened valve seats were fitted so the Lotus now conveniently runs on unleaded petrol. We understand that the motor car is reliable – proof if needed of this is the journey it has made from its home in Leicestershire to Dorset for the auction sale.  From 1994 until 2000, the Lotus was housed in dry storage, after which a new chassis was fitted. Recently, the Lotus has been fitted with new drive belts, battery and alternator; work to the ignition wiring has also been carried out. The exhaust system is apparently stainless steel and the Eclat has a five speed gearbox.  In 2013-14, the upholstery was retrimmed to the original pattern. A glass sunroof is fitted and the bodywork and paint appears to be original and in good, sound condition.

The history file contains the original handbook, several MOT test certificates and invoices, and the V5C registration certificate.
