As the successor to the Sixties-styled ‘02’ Series, the ‘3 Series’ of 1975 was an instant hit, offering all the substance expected of BMW, coupled with the definitive style that epitomised the era. The first generation was launched initially as a four cylinder two door coupe, but six cylinders swiftly followed, along with a choice of a cabriolet body. The second generation of 1982 lasted until 1994 and benefitted from some design tweeks; it was the first three series to be offered with a diesel engine and the ‘Touring’ or estate version of the model arrived in 1987. Over six generations, the 3 Series is obviously still in production today and is BMW’s best-selling model.

This 316 (E21) is certain to be a classic of the future. We are informed that it is an extremely original model, retaining its first registration number GUG 89Y, and is finished in the rare colour of Puszta Green. The original complimentary grey cloth interior appears to be in good condition; the paintwork we are told is tidy and the mechanics of the motor car are in good working order. The road wheels were refurbished in 2015 and a new set of Dunlop tyres fitted. The motor car had just one owner (a Mr Beale, who purchased the BMW for £6400 when new) until the enthusiast vendor became current custodian.

The extensive history file supplied contains the original sales brochure, the sales invoice (stating the supplying dealer as G E Hunt Ltd of Ferrensby), the handbooks and wallet, AA documentation, a large quantity of MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate. An excellent opportunity for the BMW collector.
