In the early 1920s, the Austin Motor Company brought out their little Austin Seven, which over the next few years became a byword for affordable motoring for the masses. A devastating blow for the manufacturers of cycle cars and the like, the charming little Seven completely won the hearts of the motoring public and it continued in many guises up to 1938.

The previous owner of this rare baby Austin was a Naval officer who purchased the motor car in January 1960; evidently, the custodian of seven years prior was a member of the same family. Affectionately known as Gigi, the Open Road Tourer was laid up whilst its owner served overseas; on his return, a thorough restoration commenced. A nut and bolt overhaul of the mechanics was carried out, the engine was professionally rebuilt and the motor car rewired. Also, the body was removed from the chassis and restored. A schedule of this work, completed in 1992, is included in the history file.

Ownership passed to the current custodian in 2006 and Gigi presently resides in a showroom, taken out sporadically for special trips and the occasional school prom. As the subject of an older restoration, the ‘7’ remains in good order; it would make an excellent addition to a serious Austin collection, and would certainly be welcome at this year’s classic rallies and events.

The file includes the aforementioned restoration schedule, the RF60 registration book and the V5C registration certificate.
