The MG Car Company sought to continue its pre-War success by introducing the TC in 1946, but by the turn of the decade it became obvious that change was needed. The TD was introduced in 1949, utilising the same chassis as its predecessor, but with new rack and pinion steering and independent front suspension. The resulting vehicle was faster and roomier than the TC and became very popular, with many exported to America. These models are still highly regarded today, offering good performance and an excellent supply of spare parts and technical assistance on hand through the Owner’s Club.

This particular TD has been the subject of a nut and bolt, bare chassis photographic restoration, which was executed by a life-long MG enthusiast as his retirement project. Carried out to an extremely high standard and with virtually no expense spared (the invoices contained within the file stand testament to that), the TD is a credit to its owner and is in superb condition. We understand that as part of the renovation, the chassis and underside were bead blasted; the panel work survived well and required minimal modification, but new bulkhead panels and running boards were fitted. The fully dismantled bodywork was professionally resprayed to an exceptional standard and a completely new interior was installed, which included the fitting of new door cards, carpets, hood and frame.

Care and attention was also paid to the electric and mechanical aspect of the motor car; we are informed that the engine was stripped, cleaned, checked and assembled with all new gaskets, a new clutch assembly, a stainless steel exhaust system, an aluminium radiator, and a new water pump and hoses. Importantly, a new wiring loom has been installed, together with a new dynamo, regulator, new engine electrics and headlamps. The carburettors were overhauled, and new fuel lines and hoses fitted. The braking system has been virtually renewed with brake lines, wheel cylinders, linings, the master cylinder and unions newly fitted.  The TD sits on refurbished and powder coated wire wheels and new tyres. The list of replacement parts is almost endless.

The large history file includes the aforementioned photographs, a large quantity of invoices, a road worthy inspection document, technical data, the V5C registration certificate, copies of import documentation, the NOVA certificate and the Arizona Certificate of Title.

The virtually concours MG TD has been recently serviced and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
